appliance zone scam

"Tip an appliances person" well now, after the guy that looked at my furnace told me the damper was stuck and I watched him turn it with a pliers, then write out a bill for $65.00 No way.

After the Sears guy told me there was a second filter under my water heater most people don't know about that was plugged and I unplugged it, He said he had to write out a bill, for $85.00 for about one minute of work. I asked him if Sears is making money this way, he smiled.

And, you want to know if we should "Tip" them. I would like to rip up the billing, and stick the pieces where the Sun don't shine.

When I had my well done. one of the three men walked around the well (I did many of them myself in the old days) tapped, for some reason on the casing, then looked at a glass of water, it was obviously full of granules of sand and oil, he told me "Yep you need everything new" I told him I already knew that, I wanted an estimate, he quoted $3000.00. And he said the test was $ $85.00 I told him to get the heck off my property.

The well guy I hired started working right away, he knew what was wrong, charged me $1800.00 for everything, got three more jobs on my street, I made him dinner and brought it out to him. And when he left, I gave him an extra $25.00 knowing it was his business.

appliance zone scam

It is not expected by repair men to receive tips. But I do have to say, it is nice when I do get one. Some companies have policies that their techs cannot accept tips. But my boss doesn't care so I take them. So if you feel the repair man did a good job and you want to tip him go ahead, I'm sure he'd appreciate it. But he won't be offended if you don't.

appliance zone phone number

No. The reason is that the repair person gives you an estimate on the repair. That sorta makes them the "owner" of the business in a sense. And it is considered rude to tip the owner.

I worked 25 years for Sears and by a statement we signed we agreed we would not take any tips and if any customer insisted we had to give the tip to the company. And they even included food.

The reason for this is because of that estimate thing. The repairman could say something like "Tip me $20 and I'll knock $50 off the bill". Thus stealing from the company and putting some of the money that should have gone to the company in their pocket.

So with that company I can tell you it is strictly prohibited and any tips go the company so in reality you just overpaid your bill.

I was always very appreciative of any such offers and told the customer so, but I always refused them.

Yes! But, don't tip them more than 30 degrees or they will fall over.

appliance zone scam

if you have 60A service, you probably have an old house. you probably need 220V for the dryer, and if the house is that old, you don't have 220V coming into your house.

also , there are a lot of surprises in old houses. things that are considered unsafe today. it might not be safe to install the dryer.

i would have an electrician give a free estimate.
but, i think he is going to tell you to upgrade.

how about a gas dryer ?

It is polite to offer refreshments and the tip could be for the person going out of their way to help you.

As a rule of thumb, and this is only in my house, I always tip anyone who comes in and repairs something for me.

I understand that money is tight, so as an alternate, why not ask the technician, when they are working, if they would like a glass of water, soda or anything cold that you might have on hand.

Most people appreciate this.

Have a lovely rest of the day. Happiness!
